The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the Innovative Water Infrastructure Workforce Development Grant Program, a competitive funding opportunity that will provide up to $10.8 million to support workforce development initiatives across the water sector. The EPA expects to make up to 15 awards for projects with a three-year performance period. Applications are due Oct. 5, 2026. 

The funding supports workforce development initiatives across the drinking water, wastewater, and private well and septic sectors. Eligible activities include apprenticeship and internship programs, education and outreach initiatives, and regional partnerships focused on workforce recruitment, training, and retention.

Organizations considering this opportunity should begin evaluating potential partnerships, defining project goals, and assessing how proposed outcomes can benefit the broader water sector. Questions to the EPA must be submitted by Sept. 14, 2026, ahead of the October application deadline.
